Style Files 01

Blinded By The Lights by The Weeknd *bonus Donald Trump*
Once in a while, I toy with the idea of doing "style posts". Not necessarily, showing me stylishly wearing said clothes (pfft that actually involves a lot of work) but like a stylish smorgasbord of items, I'm loving at the moment. Including items, I've purchased (right now or long before), planning to purchase, or styles - I just like - right now. Kinda like my JukeBox posts but with fashion. What can I say I'm a longterm work in progress - 1st post on the topic / 2nd post. Today, this is my up to date post on my Style Journey. Think of it as a jumble mood board of ideas with mini-reviews and art shares etc. to do with style and lifestyle.

Lately, I've been really into pale soft feminine colours and fabrics with an ethereal quality. Yet, I still love my manly boots, chunky trainers and functioning handbags that can hold a little bit more than a lip gloss, and a phone. So, it was interesting to see how my Pinterest inspirations correlated with my recent purchases. A laidback ensemble of feminine-functionality ... is that a thing? It is now ...
MANGO
My order: This is my first-order from Mango! I was planning to buy some clothes but, the accessories spoke more to me. Despite not being a particularly fashionable person, ironically I'm so picky! I looked at the bag umpteen times before purchasing it (it also comes in bright pink which was my first option). I liked how stylish the bag appeared, and that it has two handle options, instead of a dainty thin strap.  The curve of the bag was something I aesthetically liked, and I felt like it could easily become my everyday bag. The necklace looked so beautiful on the models and I loved how it reflected an opalescent light (think of ocean animals), add in the fact that it's made of glass, with an easy closure (when I have long nails lobster claps are a nightmare) so despite some reservations, I  bought it all!

The Reality: I won't lie. The first time I saw the bag in the flesh, I was disappointed. It didn't look as stylish, and the material looked cheaper-than-cheap for the £19.99, I paid for it (I've seen £5 bags have better-looking material). Plus, since the bag was filled it didn't have the curve. The saving grace was the necklace, at least it surpassed my expectations and truly "glowed" even without the sunlight I thought it needed. Thankfully though, after I took out the stuffing in the bag and put on the second strap I began to see it in a better light ... This bag can actually hold nuff stuff (shhh!) ... Over the years my handbags have shrunk as I realised, when you carry big bags people are always asking you to carry x-y-z for them *jokers* and big bags get very heavy and are often filled with 89% unnecessary items. Hence, if you haven't downsized already for the daily, I suggest you do!

ZARA
My Order: Yes, I bought the whole outfit. I really love the colour, it's so serene and the shimmering of the fabric is so delicate. The pants came first. I'm not sure why my order was split (different warehouses?) but it would've been nice to have everything together. I ordered another top, not pictured here so it came after the trousers.

The Reality: The pants have stretch (M) and are slightly see-through. Yep, your knicker line will be seen and the shadow of your legs if you wear this alone. Personally, I'd wear this with leggings underneath if I were to wear it outside but, I bought it mainly for indoor lounging ... Overall, I'm really pleased with the colour and the shimmer of the fabric. It has a very 70s free-flowing vibe, and I can imagine this looking its best in Roma/Greecian garden set up with lots of sun and lounging. Another great thing about the top is that you can scrunch it up or not.

CROP TOPS
My Order: I ordered a zingy green pale neon (?) crop top because the blue at the time was out of stock ... It came with the other Zara top and thankfully was what I expected. A stretchy strappy crop top (M)

The Reality: The top is more stretchy than I expected which is a good thing (93% cotton, 7% elastane). I've never been a fan of crop tops until I realised how comfy and mildly supportive they can be. Now when it comes to lounging, I live in them. My personal faves when it comes to brand quality (look, feel and mild support) has been American Apparel. I personally like the polo neck version best (3rd picture from the left, 95% cotton & 5% elastane - although I don't think they sell it anymore). I don't wear crop tops outside my lounging but, if you're in the best shape of your life, I can see their outer-worldly appeal. That brings me to exercise ... another reason I've found a haven in crop tops is that they are great for low impact stretches and exercises. Also great for beauty routines and spa days when you won't be too concerned with lotions and potions (oils) accidentally spilling on them as opposed to a fancy bralette (yeah your girl knows lingo). I think it's important to note that crop tops, are by no means a replacement for a well-fitted bra and if you intend to do high impact exercises, then you should always invest in a quality supportive bra. Plus, no matter your size there are crop tops that will fit and suit you. I recommend going one down from your chest measurements size, to get something fitted especially if you haven't tried the specific item before. Make sure it has some form of stretch in it - elastic/elastane or it won't have any stretch or support and will just stiff, tight and probably rip ... It's early days but I really like this crop top although the straps twist, which is a bit annoying for the perfectionist in me (she exists in us all).

End Thoughts: I would buy from Mango again especially their jewellery and Zara didn't disappoint! I look forward to sharing more style file posts as and when I get inspired.
